EXCA Brave Horse

The Brave Horse, Volume 2, Issue 1

January 2010

Welcome to the Extreme Cowboy Association

We are excited about 2010 and the many fun filled and exciting Extreme Cowboy Racing events that are on the schedule.  The formation of EXCA has been an thrilling and challenging adventure! Many people have worked tirelessly to create an association that you will be proud to tell your friends about.  This is the latest issue of your monthly newsletter, The Brave Horse.

You will receive it each month electronically around the middle of the month.  The Brave Horse will be full of interesting stories, EXCA event results, point standings, human interest stories about EXCA members and Tips and Tales from our founder, Craig Cameron.  We encourage you to communicate your suggestions for stories and ideas that will make  The Brave Horse fun, better and more informative.

CRAIG CAMERON - THE MAN

Over the past 14 months, I have had the opportunity and good fortune to spend a lot of time with Craig Cameron.  We have worked together as Craig planned and implemented the Extreme Cowboy Association.  We have travelled around the country to many different cities as Craig educated and entertained thousands of people at some of the most prestigious Horse Expos in the country.

This opportunity has given me a glimpse of Craig Cameron, the man.  Yes, there is a public and private side of Craig.  There is one very common thread connecting his public and private side – consistency.  Craig is a Cowboy’s cowboy, a Man’s man and a Gentleman’s gentleman.  Whether at home on the Double Horn Ranch or on the road, these qualities never change.  Craig is a man with deep commitments.  His commitments run to his core. His devotion and loyalty to his work, his many friends, nature and animals are unparalleled. He is a spiritual man that demonstrates and lives by his beliefs in a quiet, subtle way.  Craig spends a lot of his private time in deep, quiet thought.  He thinks a lot about how to work most effectively with the next horse he is going to train, how to communicate most effectively with a client or how to improve his teaching methods.

Craig is quick to smile and laugh; two characteristics that help everyone around him relax and have fun.  Another characteristic that I appreciate is that Craig is honest and straight forward. When he talks with you, there is no need to try to read between the lines.  He says what he means and he means what he says – end of story.

The next time you have the opportunity to talk with Craig or attend one of his Horsemanship demonstrations, you can rest assured that you are hearing and seeing the real deal…Craig Cameron, the man.

2010 EXCA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING

The format for qualifying for the 2010 EXCA World Championship will be the same as 2009.  The top 60% from each Division in each Region will be invited, with a minimum of 3 invitations per Division from each Region.  We are currently in contact with several venue locations to determine the sight for the 2010 World Championship.  Once the location has been determined, we will announce the location and dates for the 2010 EXCA World Championship.

2010 EXCA RULEBOOKS AND MEMBERSHIP CARDS

The 2010 EXCA Rulebook is currently being printed.  Once we have received them, you will receive a copy of the Rulebook and your 2010 EXCA membership card.  There are numerous changes in the 2010 Rulebook, including a new scoring and judging system.  The new scoring and judging system will create a consistent standard to be used across the entire country.  The new system was put in place following the 2009 Annual meeting held in Topeka following the 2009 EXCA World Championship.  Many thanks go to Steve Lantvit and his Committee for their time and dedication in putting the new system in place.

JUDGE'S CERTIFICATION

Another addition for 2010 is the implementation of the Judge's Certification test.  The test is just about complete and will be available on the EXCA website very soon.  Anyone that applies to be an EXCA Judge will be required to take the test.  There are no exceptions to this requirement.  You will receive an email or letter with complete details as soon as the test is available.  The purpose of the Judge's Certification is to do everything we can to assure a consistent standard and quality judging at every EXCA event.
